A romantic meal for two: the best recipes

The first date was a success and further meetings have brought you closer together. A romantic meal at home is now the ideal opportunity to get to know each other even better. Sometimes it's much nicer to have your partner cook for you or to conjure up a first-class meal together instead of going out to eat. At home, it's just the two of you and you're completely undisturbed. With a few candles on the table, you can easily create a romantic atmosphere. Don't forget a good bottle of wine.

We have put together a few recipe ideas for your romantic dinner. Whether you are a meat lover, a connoisseur, calorie-conscious, or vegetarian, you are sure to delight your partner. All quantities are for 2 people, of course.

Romantic meal for vegetarians: Truffle risotto

Ingredients:

  • 200g risotto rice

  • 1 glass of white wine

  • 500 ml vegetable stock

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 shallots

  • 1 jar of truffles

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 3 tbsp Parmesan (grated)

  • Salt and pepper

Preparation:

  • First, peel and chop the shallots and sauté them in a pan with olive oil. Add the rice and sauté together.

  • Deglaze with white wine. Once the wine has reduced, gradually add the stock. The rice must always be covered. Very important: you must stir continuously, otherwise the rice will stick or burn! The work is easier, of course, if you take turns with a kiss...

  • Once all the liquid has reduced, add the sliced truffles.

  • Just before serving, fold in the Parmesan and butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste – and your romantic vegetarian meal is ready.

For meat lovers: Rump steak with potatoes and beans

Ingredients:

  • 2 rump steaks

  • 500 g potatoes

  • 1 clove of garlic

  • 250 g green beans

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 onion

  • 2 tbsp peanut oil

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Butter

  • Aluminum foil

Preparation:

  • This recipe lets you whip up a romantic meal for meat lovers in no time. First, preheat the oven to 180°C (fan oven). Wash the potatoes and quarter them (leave the skins on). Then place them in a baking dish, add 2 tbsp olive oil, garlic, and salt, and mix everything together. Cook the potatoes in the oven for 30 minutes.

  • In the meantime, wash the beans and cook them in salted water for 10 minutes. Remove and rinse with cold water. Then heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan, sauté the onions until translucent and add the beans briefly.

  • Remove the potatoes from the oven and keep warm. Reduce the oven temperature to 150-160°C. The rump steak must be at room temperature (remove from the refrigerator approx. 30 minutes before frying). It is important to season the meat only after frying and to cut into the fat edge, otherwise it will curl up during frying. Heat the pan. It is important to add the peanut oil to the pan only when it is hot. Sear the steak on both sides (1 to 2 minutes).

  • Then place the pan with the steaks in the oven (approx. 160 °C convection) and continue cooking the meat. The cooking time is variable. If the meat yields slightly when pressed, it is medium. After cooking, it is best to wrap the steaks in aluminum foil and let them rest for 5 minutes so that the meat juices are evenly distributed.

A romantic meal that's still calorie-conscious: Pollock fillet with steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 2 pollock fillets, 150 g each

  • 300 g carrots

  • 300 g rutabagas

  • Salt

  • 1/2 bunch of dill

  • 1 untreated lemon

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Sea salt

  • Aluminum foil

Preparation:

  • Preheat the oven to 175 °C (fan oven). Peel and slice the carrots and rutabagas and cook in salted water for approx. 5 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and chop the dill, mix with the olive oil and set aside. Drain the vegetables.

  • Wash the lemon and squeeze the juice from one half, slice the other half. Now wash the fish and rub it with the lemon juice and sea salt.

  • Spread the carrots and rutabagas on the aluminum foil, place the fish on top and brush with the dill oil. Depending on your taste, you can add a slice of lemon. Form the aluminum foil into a packet. Place the finished packets in the oven at 175 °C for 15 to 20 minutes. This leaves you with a little time to chat in peace before your romantic meal.

The dessert for your romantic meal: Chocolate mousse

Ingredients:

  • 200 g dark chocolate

  • 50 g butter

  • 200 ml cream

  • 3 eggs

  • 40 g sugar

Preparation:

  • Dessert is the perfect way to end a romantic meal. Chocolate is the key ingredient in this dessert, so you should use the highest quality chocolate possible for the mousse. First, melt the chocolate in a double boiler.

  • Next, separate the eggs and whip the cream and egg whites until stiff. Now stir the egg yolks with a little hot water and the sugar until creamy. Then stir in the melted chocolate. Finally, fold the whipped cream and beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture.

  • The mousse must be refrigerated for at least two hours. The finished dessert can then be garnished with berries or chocolate shavings as desired.
